The cultural and ethnic diversity at KAUST was very exciting for a young person like me. Plus the research focus of KAUST is unlike any other graduate school in the world. I will always be proud of my decision of doing my PhD at this incredible institution, where I was able to make a bigger and lasting impact in the field of wireless communications.

Qurrat-Ul-Ain Nadeem selected while at KAUST as one of the 2018 Marconi Society Paul Baran Young Scholars and she currently is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Engineering, the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, working with Professor Anas Chaaban in the Communication Theory Lab.

Education and Early Career

Qurrat obtained her Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from KAUST in June 2015 and December 2018 respectively. Before joining KAUST, she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan, in June 2013.

Research Interest

Qurrat’s research focus is on the design of next-generation communication systems and the applications of random matrix theory in wireless communications. She worked on the design of Full Dimension Massive MIMO technology in her Ph.D. and currently during her post-doctorate, she is developing intelligent reflecting surfaces assisted communication systems to realize the vision of smart radio environments.

Honors & Awards

Qurrat was selected as the Paul Baran Young Scholar by The Marconi Society for the year 2018, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the broad fields of communications and networking. She was selected for her work on Full Dimension MIMO for 5G systems. Qurrat has also been the LUMS Dean's Honor List Scholar, consecutively from 2009 to 2013.
