The lecture will demonstrate how mathematical tools as diverse as topological dynamics and the Radon Transform may contribute to the solution of an old problem in the theory of hyperbolic conservation laws.
 
Biography: Born in Greece. Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens (1964). Ph,D. from the Johns Hopkins University (1967). Assistant Professor, Cornell University (1968-1971). Associate Professor (1971-1976) and Professor (1976-) in the Division of Applied Mathematics, Brown University.
