EE Seminar: One point recovery of parabolic equations

We show how to reconstruct and identify the coefficients of linear parabolic equations and the shape of the domain as well from a sequence of observations of the solution taken at a single point under various initial conditions. As the domain is unknown, the point could either fall inside or on the boundary. The method is to reconstruct enough eigenfunctions of the associated elliptic operator from the observed data so to solve the algebraic system by using the Wronskian. We shall outline the recent results obtained for the multidimensional case and also operators in the divergence form. Applications and numerical examples will also be discussed. This is joint work with Vu Kim Tuan, UWG.
