Wave functional materials are artificial materials that can control wave propagation wished. In this talk, I will give a brief review of the progress of wave functional materials and reveal the secret behind the engineering of these materials to achieve desired properties.  In particular, I will focus on our contributions to metamaterials and metasurfaces.  I will introduce the development of the effective medium, a powerful tool in modeling wave functional materials, followed by some illustrative examples demonstrating the intriguing properties, such as redirection, emission rate enhancement and cloaking.

Brief Biography

Dr. Ying Wu joined KAUST CEMSE division in October 2010 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2017. She received her BSc from Nanjing University in 2002 and a Ph.D. from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2008. Prior to KAUST, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow at HKUST. Her research focuses on wave propagation in complex media.
