Dr. Žliobaitė visited our MINE Lab for 6 days and gave a talk in our division. Dr. Žliobaitė is currently a Lecturer at Bournemouth University, UK.
Dr. Haixun Wang visited our MINE Lab for a week and gave a seminar. Dr. Wang is currently a Senior Researcher in Microsoft Research Asia.
There is a growing interest in applying mathematical theories and methods (from topology, computational geometry, differential equations, fluid dynamics, quantum statistics, etc.) to describe and to analyze scientific regularities of diverse, massive, complex, nonlinear, and fast-changing data accumulated continuously around the world and in discovering and revealing the valid, insightful, and valuable knowledge that data imply.
MINE members made a number of international scientific visits for collaborative research. Prof. Zhang visited Prof. Benjamin Fung at Concordia University and Prof. Gang Hua at Stevens Institute of Technology in August.
We have two papers accepted by the 12th IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM 2012). ICDM is one of the top conferences in Data Mining. This year, the acceptance rate of ICDM is 151/756=19.97%.
Our Innovation Award Proposal 'Some Highly Collaborative Research Problems in Statistical Machine Learning and Uncertainty Quantification' has been accepted and approved by Texas AM University.
Prof. Suojin Wang visits our MINE Lab (May 8 - June 14, 2012). Prof. Wang is a Professor of Statistics at Texas A&M University.
Prof. Cécile Germain-Renaud visited our MINE Lab for one week and gave a talk. Cécile is a Full Professor in Université Paris-Sud 11, France.
Dr. Faisal Kamiran joined us as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Faisal earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, in 2011.
Our paper entitled "Automatic Label Generation by Combining Mouse Trajectory and Click-Through Data" has been accepted for the AI and the Web track at the Twenty-Sixth AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI 2012).
Dr. Hengjie Song joined us as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Hengjie was a senior researcher in Baidu after he completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Dr. Hai Huang joined us as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Hai earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, in 2011.
The website of our MINE Lab is launched. The new website will be a dynamic platform to present our latest news, activities and research.
Shuai has won an Academic Excellence Award (AEA) worth $6000 US dollars. The award was based on his excellent performance on research.
Our paper entitled "Virtual Machine Migration in an Over-committed Cloud" has been accepted by the 13th IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS 2012) as a long technical paper.
