Computer Science Program

CS

Computer Science

The Computer Science (CS) program trains students to create computational infrastructure and apply computational methods to a variety of areas. CS offers six tracks, each of which leads to a frontier of computing: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Systems, High Performance Computing, Theoretical Computer Science, Visual Computing, and Computational Biosciences.

Computer graphics and visualization technologies can show digital counterparts of our physical reality, typically addressing the macroscopic world we are familiar with. I create new technologies that can show the very tiny world around us, how atoms arrange into a complex structure up to living organisms, the virtual universe of the nanocosmos as we know it to date.
Ivan Viola, Associate Professor, Computer Science
Gabriel Wittum
“Modelling and computing the world is what we aim at. To that end, we need fast, precise and efficient numerics and software.”

I most enjoy working on research problems which have applicability in the real world and at the same time yield to theoretical analysis.

KAUST CEMSE CS CBRC SFB Xin Gao
We work on the intersection between computer science and biology. In the computational side, we develop theories and methods in the field of machine learning, algorithms, and optimization. In the biological side, we develop novel methods to tackle a wide range of open problems, from sequence analysis, to 3D structure determination, to function annotation, to biological networks, and to healthcare.
Xin Gao, Professor, Computer Science
