Data is at the foundation of today's human progress. My goal is to design the most practical tools to allow scientific advancement in security and healthcare.
Panos Kalnis is a Professor of Computer Science (CS) and Principal Investigator of the InfoCloud Research Group. He is also a member of the Extreme Computing Research Center.
Education and early career
Prior to joining KAUST, Kalnis received a Ph.D. from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a Diploma in Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece. In 2009 I was on sabbatical from Stanford University.was an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, National University of Singapore (NUS).
In the past, I was involved in the designing and testing of VLSI chips at the Computer Technology Institute, Greece. He has also worked for several companies on database designing, e-commerce projects and web applications.
Areas of expertise and current scientific interests
Kalnis' research interests are in Big Data, Cloud computing, Parallel Systems, Graphs, Privacy to advance in the realm of Data mining, and Knowledge extraction, security as well as Bioinformatics.
Mobile data have become the fuel of the IoE society. Fast, reliable and efficient technology and computational infrastructures are demanded to compute data. Kalnis' research advances in database outsourcing and cloud computing, mobile computing, Peer-to-Peer, OLAP, data warehouses, spatial-temporal and high-dimensional databases, along with Geographic information systems and Security and Privacy prevention.
The scientific environment at CEMSE is the best you can imagine. Here I found the perfect support, expertise, and inspiration for my projects. The impressive facilities have no equals to turn theory into practical solutions.
