Aleksandr Mikhalev was a Postdoctoral fellow in the Extreme Computing Research Center. His research focuses on Integral equations and arising hierarchical matrices, optimisation through maximal volume submatrices, software development.

Mikhalev is also the leading author of the STARS-H software, a high-performance parallel open-source package of Software for Testing Accuracy, Reliability and Scalability of Hierarchical computations.
