Publication Ethics and Authorship - Including the Responsible and Ethical Use of AI in Research
This talk outlines essential publication ethics and best practices at KAUST, focusing on authorship criteria, researcher responsibilities, dispute resolution, and the ethical use of AI in scholarly writing.
Overview
Publication is essential to the research process because it is the primary mechanism for sharing findings and contributes to the body of knowledge. Authorship plays a critical role in researchers’ careers. It is therefore important to understand publication ethics – the ethical standards at KAUST based on international best practices. This lecture is designed to clarify some issues, especially those related to potential ethical approaches to allocating credit to authors, and to highlight authors’ ethical responsibilities in the research environment. In addition, participants will learn about the fundamental principles, authorship criteria, and eligibility, best practices, potential dispute resolution, and the acceptable/unacceptable use of AI in research and scholarly writing.
