Pre-Authentication Attacks on 5G Cellular Systems
This talk presents pre-authentication attacks on 5G systems and proposes effective mitigation techniques.
Overview
In this talk, we will present several pre-authentication attacks on 5G networks and propose mitigation techniques. First, we demonstrate how emergency alerts can be spoofed and propose cross-cell verification as a mitigation technique. Second, we present a denial-of-service (DoS) attack based on the Radio Resource Control (RRC) protocol and propose a corresponding mitigation technique. Finally, we discuss future security challenges arising from the transition from terrestrial networks (TN) to non-terrestrial networks (NTN), with a particular focus on UAV-based gNBs.
