The Internet of Things (IoT) is a revolutionary innovation that seamlessly integrating an enormous number of smart objects within the Internet. It is imperceptibly affecting the way of human life and work. Endpoint devices form a core part of the IoT network and the cryptographic algorithm is the core mechanism for secure endpoints. In this talk, the speaker will provide a high-level introduction to his recent research on IoT endpoint security. Firstly, he will introduce requirements followed by a discussion on cryptographic algorithm implementation. He will mainly focus on an overview of efficient cryptography for IoT endpoints and system privacy issues. Then he will discuss security management approaches, positives, negatives and challenges to resolve, linking to the endpoint device security section with regards to realistic device needs/capabilities. Finally, he will give the research results on continuous authentication which is a crucial aspect for cloud-based IoT security. He has proposed a new prototype for continuous user authentication for the IoT network where a user’s biological features such as the brainwave, retrieved by wearable devices, were adopted as the raw data. Machine learning-based techniques were leveraged to derive user’s bio-features as authentication tokens in the system to support continual entity verification in the background without the user’s notice.
The speaker Chunhua Su received the B.S. degree for Beijing Electronic and Science Institute in 2003 and received his M.S. and Ph.D. of computer science from Faculty of Engineering, Kyushu University in 2006 and 2009, respectively. He is currently working as Associate Professor in the Division of Computer Science, University of Aizu. He has worked as a research scientist in the Cryptography & Security Department of the Institute for Infocomm Research, Singapore from 2011-2013. From 2013-2016, he has worked as an Assistant professor in the School of Information Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. From 2016-2017, he worked as Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University. His research interests include cryptanalysis, cryptographic protocols, privacy-preserving technologies in data mining and IoT security & privacy.
