Semi-talk: Low Cost Photonics

Brief Biography

Dr. Naresh Chand is a Life Fellow of IEEE, Associate Vice President, Chapter Relations of the IEEE Photonics Society, and the Chair, Photonics Society, North Jersey Chapter. Dr. Naresh Chand was previously with US R&D Center of Huawei Technologies in NJ in 2011-2019 where he was working on developing low-cost advanced technologies for Ultra Broadband Optical Access Networks. Prior to this, he worked for BAE Systems (2003-11), Agere Systems and AT&T/Lucent Bell Laboratories (1986-2003), and Dept of Electronics, Government of India (1974-79. He did his M.Sc. (Tech) in 1974 from BITS, Pilani. On a British Common wealth Scholarship, he did his M. Eng. (1980) and Ph.D. (1983) in EE from the University of Sheffield, UK. He also did 2 years post-doctoral research at the University of Illinois, Urbana, IL.As a UNDP expert on the TOKTEN project, he supported SAMEER, TIFR, CEERI, SSPL, and DOE in 1995-96. Recently, he was elected to the Board of Education in his town Warren, NJ where his emphasis will be enhancing the STEM education and school ratings. During 2011-12, he was the Chair, IEEE North Jersey Section. As a result of introducing his best practices, his Section was declared as the best large Section of IEEE in the world in 2013.
