Wave functional materials are artificial materials that can control wave propagation as wish. In this talk, I will give a brief review on the progress of wave functional materials and reveal the secret behind the engineering of these materials to achieve desired properties. In particular, I will focus on our contributions on metamaterials and metasurfaces. I will introduce the development of effective medium and deep learning models, two distinct methods in the design of metamaterials, followed by some illustrative examples demonstrating the intriguing properties, such as redirection, emission rate enhancement, wave steering and cloaking.
Dr. Ying Wu joined KAUST CEMSE division in October 2010 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2017. She received her BSc from Nanjing University in 2002 and PhD from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2008. Prior to KAUST, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow at HKUST. Her research focuses on wave propagation in complex media.
