Qizhou Wang, 22, is a communication engineering graduate who will join KAUST from the University of Electronic Science and Technology, China. Wang will join KAUST in the fall of 2020 as an M.S./Ph.D. candidate in the KAUST Primalight Lab under the supervision of Professor Andrea Fratalocchi.
Qizhou first came to KAUST as a visiting student and was instantly impressed by the university's excellent research facilities and living standards. This outstanding internship experience acted as an impetus in Wang’s decision to choose KAUST as the next step in his academic career.
What was your main subject during undergraduate degree? Why did you choose it?
My main subject was communication engineering. I choose it because it's the best major in our college. Also, the underlying theories of communication are fascinating to me.
Why have you chosen to study an M.S./Ph.D. at KAUST?
For me, studying M.S./Ph.D. at KAUST was a decision without hesitation. I believe KAUST has been a beacon of innovation and scientific development over the past ten years. From my perspective, KAUST is a university with the best research environment.
When did your interest in electrical engineering arise? What are your research interests?
My interest in electrical engineering arose during my second year of high school (when I got full mark at physics). My research interests include machine learning, optimization theories and computer vision.
What are your hobbies? What are you passionate about?
I like playing video games, singing, swimming and fishing during my leisure time. I also love spending time with my friends and colleagues.
Can you give a piece of advice to students who plan to pursue an M.S./Ph.D. at KAUST?
I would like to suggest to them to study hard, play hard. Always be happy, then productive.
