KAUST is a very culturally and educational rich experience that you will struggle to find anywhere else. Once there, get a mentor with whom you can share your career goals.
Cristhopper Armenta Alumni, MS' 11 in Computer Science

Originally from Mexico, Cristhopper is a computing professional who has a keen interest in mobile platforms like iOS, Android and Windows Phone.  His specialties and interests range from visual computing (visualization), computer graphics, mobile technology development and technology business development.

After some contractor work with two companies in Mexico and the US, he now works for IBM in the US.

''I worked as a subcontractor for IBM and got to meet some of the key people for the project who really liked my work and ended up offering me a full-time position,'' he told us.

How was life at KAUST, we asked?

''My Dean was the best ever and I think the professors were key in helping me the most. They were mentors and partners. It was a small community so it was only natural to get to know them better. In addition, the extra-curricular community activities helped me keep a balance between studies and life. Furthermore, it was great to have Shaheen at our disposal and the display wall in the Visualization Core Lab. I used the display wall in the Math building lobby for my thesis work and defense,'' he replied.

Why did you choose KAUST?

''Multiple factors including my interest in KAUST from when in graduate school, my wish to explore a culture different from mine, and all the help and support KAUST offered to its very first class. It was the most culturally interesting alternative.''

As it has been a few years since Cristhopper graduated we were keen to understand what he remembered most?

''There are a number of memories but definitely one of the best ones was the very first Commencement. It was so full of magic and it felt great to be able to participate and be with everyone. We all arrived as strangers but left as family and friends. Another great memory was a trip to the Empty Quarter. In addition, I was placed third at a talent show they hosted for the community, it was a great experience,'' he recalled.

We asked what advice he has for someone considering applying to KAUST?

''It is a very culturally and educational rich experience that you will struggle to find anywhere else. Once there, get a mentor with whom you can share your career goals.''
