Prof. Vipiana: Numerical Analysis of Glide Structures for 5G/6G Communications via a Periodic Integral Equation Formulation

Abstract

The topic of the presentation is a technique based on integral equations, the periodic Green’s function and the method of moments discretization to efficiently analyze the dispersion diagram of non-canonical glide-symmetrical structures. The proposed technique is tested on a glide fully metallic Luneburg lens for 5G/6G communications.

Brief Biography

Francesca Vipiana received the Laurea and Ph.D. degrees in electronic engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, Torino, Italy, in 2000 and 2004, respectively, with doctoral research carried out partly at the European Space Research Technology Center, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. From 2005 to 2008, she was a Research Fellow with the Department of Electronics, Politecnico di Torino. From 2009 to 2012, she was the Head of the Antenna and EMC Laboratory, Istituto Superiore Mario Boella, Torino. Since 2012, she has been an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, Politecnico di Torino, where she has been an Associate Professor since 2014 and a Full Professor since 2021.
Her current research interests include numerical techniques based on the integral equation and method of moment approaches, with a focus on multiresolution and hierarchical schemes, domain decomposition, preconditioning and fast solution methods, and advanced quadrature integration schemes. She is currently involved in the analysis, synthesis, and optimization of multiband reconfigurable compact antennas, and the modelling and design of microwave imaging systems, for medical and industrial applications.
She received the Young Scientist Award at the URSI General Assembly in 2005, the First Prize in the Poster Competition at the IEEE Women in Electromagnetics Workshop in 2009, the ISMB Best Paper Award in 2011, and the Lot Shafai Mid-Career Distinguished Award from the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society in 2017. She is also on Editorial Board of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation and IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine.
