David Bolin is an associate professor of statistics in the CEMSE Division at KAUST. He is leading the research group Stochastic Processes and Applied Statistics, which focuses on statistical methodology for stochastic processes and random fields based on stochastic partial differential equations.
Bolin‘s main research interests are in stochastic partial differential equations and their applications in statistics, with a focus on the development of practical, computationally efficient tools for modeling non-stationary and non-Gaussian processes. He also works on uncertainty quantification and visualization for applications in spatial statistics and medical imaging.
Education and Professional Experience
David Bolin received his Ph.D. degree in mathematical statistics from Lund University in 2012 and also holds an M.S. in Engineering Mathematics from Lund University. He was awarded with the Cramér price in 2013, which is a yearly award for the best Ph.D. thesis in statistics or mathematical statistics at a Swedish university. After a postdoc fellowship at Umeå University, he moved to Chalmers University of Technology in 2014 for an assistant professor position. Two years later, in 2016, he became associate professor in mathematical statistics at the University of Gothenburg. In 2019, he moved to KAUST for his current position as associate professor of statistics.
