About

Mudassir Masood, PhD student in Electrical Engineering (EE) at the CEMSE division, received the best poster award at the International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and Their Applications (ICCSPA'13), held 11-14 February 2013 in Sharjah, UAE.

Mudassir won the prize for his poster titled "A Fast Non-Gaussian Bayesian Matching Pursuit Method for Sparse Reconstruction". His Ph.D. advisor Prof. Tareq Y. Al-Naffouri, professor of EE, is the co-author of the winning poster. In this work, which is under a submission under the second review to IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, the authors have developed a Bayesian algorithm for the recovery of sparse and compressible signals. The algorithm has the distinctive feature of being agnostic to the distributions of the signals to be recovered. More details about the algorithm can be found at the following website.
