Rafi obtained his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering under the supervision of Professor Boon Ooi at Photonics Laboratory at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Rafi completed his BEng (1st class Hons) in Electronics majoring in Multimedia from Multimedia University, Malaysia with TM scholarship in 2008. Later on, he was attached with Panasonic R&D center for 6 months and completed his summer term on Business–IT at FH Hof. He pursued his MS in Electronics communication and Computer engineering (with Distinction) from the University of Nottingham with KAUST fellowship in 2010. During his MS, the dissertation was carried on a non-linear FWM effect on a single-mode optical fiber transmission system with conventional OOK modulation schemes and observing possible performance degradation factors. His main research interest is on the feasibility study and performance evaluation of Semiconductor Broadband Lasers as well as other broadband light sources in optical networks. Currently, he is an Employer Services Specialist at NYU Abu Dhabi, UAE.
