Abstract

Point-of-care (PoC) devices refer to portable and affordable diagnosing systems, mostly used in the field of healthcare. PoCs have garnered interest, particularly for detecting diseases that require multiple diagnostic tests and in resource-limited areas. Recently, major disease outbreaks have pushed the development of PoCs that can be easily used without the need for special expertise and without complex sample processing. Thus, developing miniaturized platforms capable of providing timely diagnosis is paramount. In this talk, I will cover the basic principles of PoCs circuit interface and instrumentation, discussing how we can develop platforms to process sensing data directly at the edge.

Brief Biography

Jose Filho received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in 2023. Currently, he is a postdoctoral research fellow also at KAUST, with affiliation to the NEOM Institute for Ocean Science and Solutions. His research interests are in designing edge-enabled platforms to use in bio-chemical sensors and optical communication applications. He is the first and co-first author of 18 journal papers, 7 conference papers, and 3 US patent applications. He has earned several awards from recognized companies, such as Intel, Microsoft, and Infineon Semiconductors, and professional associations, namely IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.
