About
Yousef Algoos earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) under the supervision of Professors Eric Feron and Mohammad Younis. His research specializes in nano/micro-electro-mechanical systems (N/MEMS) and semiconductor technologies, with a focus on nanofabrication, N/MEMS design and dynamics, micro robotics, control theory, vibration, and mechatronics.
During his doctoral work, Algoos developed ultra-miniaturized, energy-efficient microchips capable of detecting dangerous impacts associated with concussions and head injuries in real time. Designed for integration into wearable platforms such as helmets, headbands, and smart glasses, the technology remains dormant until a critical shock occurs, enabling continuous monitoring with minimal power consumption. His work supports applications in sports safety, occupational health, and injury prevention.
Also during his doctoral research, Algoos developed MEMS-based microgrippers (micro-robotics), targeting highly sensitive handling tasks. These microdevices are designed to safely manipulate delicate biological cells and microelectronic components, enabling precise interaction at small scales. This capability opens new pathways for tissue engineering, lab-on-chip platforms, and advanced microelectronics assembly.
Algoos earned his B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Alabama.
