Anas Daghistani, MSc Alumni in the Computer Science (CS) Program at the Computer, Electrical, and Mathematical Science and Engineering (CEMSE) Division, received the best paper award at the International Conference on Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking, and Communications (IEEE WiMob, 2013), held 7-9 October 2013 in Lyon, France. Anas won the prize for his paper entitled "Green-Frag: Energy-Efficient Frame Fragmentation Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks". This work proposes a novel efficient frame fragmentation technique called Green-Frag which allows sensor nodes to transmit data with optimal transmit power and frame structure based on interference conditions. A prototype was developed and evaluated using sensor motes testbed located at Networking Lab in KAUST. Green-Frag optimizes energy consumption by choosing the best transmit power according to the channel conditions.
His advisor Prof. Basem Shihada, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, is a co-author of the awarded paper.
Anas received a B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He is currently a Teacher Assistant at Umm Al-Qura University. His research interests cover a wide range of topics in computer networking such as wireless sensors, MIMO systems, full-duplex wireless, and green communication.
