Zhengying Lou is a communication engineering graduate who joined KAUST from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. Zhengying first came to KAUST in June 2020 as a visiting student and was instantly impressed by the university’s high academic standards and convenient living environment.
It was this combination of factors that saw her join KAUST as a M.S./Ph.D. student in August 2021 under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Slim Alouini in the Communication Theory Lab.
What was your main subject during your undergraduate degree? Why did you choose it?
I majored in communication engineering. It is a comprehensive and practical major. It's also a valuable degree to find a good job after graduation.
When did you first become interested in electrical and computer engineering? What are your research interests?
I first became interested in electrical and computer engineering when I was in high school. This major has great application prospects because I can use a computer to achieve what I want.
I worked on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) when I was visiting student at KAUST.
What do you do in your spare time? What are you passionate about?
I exercise and watch movies in my spare time. I am passionate about playing badminton and table tennis since childhood.
What is your future outlook?
I want to teach at a university in the future, continue to do academic research, and try to apply my research results to real life.
Can you give a piece of advice to students who plan to pursue a M.S./Ph.D. at KAUST?
My advice is to attach great importance to math and other foundation courses. That is how you get through the academic interview and have an opportunity to study at KAUST.
