About

Congratulations to CBRC members Prof. Stefan Arold, Krishnakumar Sivakumar, Raik Grunberg, Senay Kafkas and Salim Bougouffa who received their 2023 KAUST employee service awards.

Prof. Stefan Arold joined KAUST in 2013 as a Bioscience Professor and PI of the Structural Biology and Engineering Lab (StruBE). His research focuses on understanding cellular signaling networks in animals and plants, specifically the molecular bases for cancer invasiveness, immune signaling, and genetic diseases.

Dr. Krishnakumar Sivakumar became a Research Scientist at the Computational Bioscience research center in 2017. His research interests encompass Environmental Microbiology, Bioengineering, Biofilm Engineering, Biofilm-based Bioprocesses, Anaerobic Microbiology, Antibiotic resistance in the environment, and Microbial Ecology.

Dr. Raik Grunberg joined KAUST in 2017 as a Research Scientist in the Structural Biology and Engineering Lab (StruBE). His work lies at the intersection of protein design, synthetic biology, and structural biology. He combines protein biochemistry, molecular biology methods, laboratory automation, and computational approaches in his research.

Dr. Senay Kafkas, a Research Scientist in the Bio-Ontology Research Group (BORG) since 2017, specializes in biomedical text/data mining and data integration. Her research involves developing methods to analyze large and heterogeneous data, addressing various challenges in the field of biomedicine.

Dr. Salim Bougouffa joined KAUST in 2013 and initially worked as a Postdoc fellow in Professor Vladimir Bajic's lab. Currently serving as a Senior Computational Biologist at CBRC, Dr. Bougouffa's research interests encompass NGS, third-generation sequencing, genomics, metagenomics, comparative genomics, genome annotation, phylogenetics, and computational biology.

On behalf of CBRC we are proud to have you on our team and offer our congratulations on this service milestone.
