The Computational Bioscience Research Center (CBRC) is pleased to announce that Professor Xin Gao has assumed the position of Interim Director and Professor Robert Hoehndorf as Interim Associate Director of the CBRC. Both professors commenced their roles on September 15, 2022.
Prof. Xin joined KAUST as Assistant Professor of Computer Science in 2010 and was promoted to Professor in 2021. In 2020, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of KAUST’s Smart Health Initiative (SHI) and as the Acting Associate Director of CBRC. His research interests lie at the intersection between computer science and biology. Xin has published more than 300 papers and is the leading inventor of over 60 international patents. As the Interim Director of the CBRC, he looks forward to developing and supporting his fellow faculty members in fundamental research in the fields of bioinformatics, computational biology, and AI in the Center.
Prof. Robert joined KAUST as Assistant Professor of Computer Science in 2014 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020. Robert's research focuses on the development and application of knowledge-based algorithms in biology and biomedicine. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Biomedical Semantics and Associate Editor of BMC Bioinformatics, Applied Ontology and PLoS ONE, and he regularly organizes and co-organizes workshops and conferences in the area of bioinformatics, data integration, and bio-ontologies.
Both Prof Xin and Prof. Robert bring with them a wealth of leadership abilities, and a strong commitment to excellence in education and research. CBRC congratulates both on their appointment in this new role.
