Job description:
We are seeking to fill a position for a postdoctoral researcher working on neuro-symbolic methods and Semantic Web ontologies. The postdoctoral researcher will work on developing novel methods that combine neural methods and semantic data. A main topic will be on methods that embed logical theories so that the semantics of the language is preserved within the embedding space. A second topic is the use of logic to constrain classifiers in massively multi-class classification problems.
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for carrying out research independently and collaboratively with other members of the research group, and present research results at conferences and in scientific journals.
The researcher will work in the group of Robert Hoehndorf, a research group which is recognized for its work on biomedical ontologies, and which has strong collaborations with leading international research institutes. The group has in the past pioneered several embedding methods for Description Logic ontologies (Onto2Vec, OPA2Vec, DL2Vec, EL Embeddings, ELBE) and is actively developing a comprehensive software library for machine learning with ontologies to which the postdoctoral researcher is expected to contribute.
Expertise required:
- PhD in computer science or mathematics,
- Sound understanding of mathematical logic, including model theory and proof theory
- Experience in machine learning, data mining, or statistical data analysis
Desirable:
- Experience with Description Logic
- Experience with ontologies in biology and biomedicine
Postdoctoral researchers are entitled to a competitive salary (commensurate with the applicant's qualifications), free, fully-furnished housing on the KAUST campus, free medical and life insurance, free education at KAUST schools for the postdoctoral researchers' children, and relocation allowance.
KAUST will be responsible for the actual recruiting decision, appointment offers and employment benefits.
