On the Application of Extreme Value Theory to the Performance of Modern Wireless Communication Systems

Abstract

Extreme value theory (EVT) deals with the asymptotic distributions of the extremes (maximum or minimum) of a set of N random variables, as N grows large. EVT is a powerful tool to analyze the performance of generalized user selection in modern wireless
Communication systems. In this talk, we will provide an overview of EVT and its application to the performance of generalized user selection for multiuser traditional wireless and cognitive radio networks. Then, we will discuss the application of EVT to the secrecy performance of generalized user selection for multiuser wireless networks. We conclude this talk by discussing the opportunities of applying EVT to the study of the physical layer security of cognitive radio systems and wireless powered communication systems.

Brief Biography

Yazan H. Al-Badarneh was born in Irbid, Jordan, in 1987. He received the B.Sc. Degree in electrical and computer engineering from Hashemite University in 2009, the M.Sc.degree in electrical engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in 2011, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, USA, in 2018. He is currently with the Department of Electrical Engineering, The University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan, as an Assistant professor. His general research interests are in the application of probability and communication theories to the study of communication systems.
