Matthew Sainsbury-Dale is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Extreme Statistics (XSTAT) research group at KAUST under the supervision of Prof. Raphaël Huser. Prior to coming to KAUST, he was a PhD student at the University of Wollongong (UOW), and graduated in the Spring 2024. In 2022, Matthew spent 5 months visiting the XSTAT research group at KAUST. Later, from March to August 2023 and from January to September 2024, he also worked as a remote consultant for the XSTAT research group at KAUST.

Education and Early Career

Matthew Sainsbury-Dale obtained a Bachelor of Mathematics Advanced (Honours Class I) in 2019 from UOW. He obtained his PhD in Statistics from UOW in March 2024, for which he received "Examiners’ Commendation for Outstanding Thesis".

Research interests

Matthew Sainsbury-Dale research interests focus primarily on statistical deep learning (particularly the use of deep learning to facilitate parameter inference), spatial statistics, statistics of extremes, and the development of statistical software.
