Prof. Hakan Bagci was co-chairing the KFUPM-KAUST workshop and Prof. Boon Ooi interacted with Prof. Qureshi from KFUPM. During the workshop, researchers from KFUPM and KAUST had fruitful discussions and exchanges on photonics research.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, the "2nd KAUST-KFUPM Photonics Workshop" was held at KAUST. Faculty, students, researchers, and visitors from the University of Michigan, University of St. Andrews, University of Central Florida, City University of London, and KFUPM participated enthusiastically in the day-long workshop.

KAUST is organizing the KAUST-UCSB-NSF Workshop on Solid-State Lighting this year with the objective of providing a forum for interaction between scientists and students in the U.S. and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The workshop will be held in KAUST on the 13th and 14th of February 2012. We are anticipating 16 participants from the U.S. and approximately 50 participants from KSA attending this workshop.

This conference will provide a unique international gathering of nanotechnology experts to exchange their ideas on nanotechnology and its applications in different areas. The SINC program will include invited speakers a workshop entitled “KACST-KAUST-UCSB Workshop on Solid-state Lighting”.

In 2015, faculties and research workers (staff and students) from KFUPM and KAUST rekindle the spirit of scientific exchange and collaboration at the KFUPM campus. The topic of discussion centered around solid-state lighting and related topics. Thanks to Prof. Sunaidi and KFUPM management for the staunch support and hospitality rendered to the participants. Dr. Rojas and Dr. Khan, postdocs at KAUST, who are joining KFUPM soon also presented in the workshop.

The objective of the joint KAUST-IEMN/UVHC workshop is to provide a forum for interaction between the leading scientists who are at the cutting edge of nanotechnology and photonics, and the faculty at KAUST and other institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The workshop is supported in part by KAUST and IEMN/UVHC.

Delegates from the IEEE Photonics Society Malaysia Chapter visited KAUST, Photonics Laboratory and participated in the half-day-long seminar.

In 2017, faculty, research staff and students from KFUPM and KAUST continue the spirit of scientific exchange at KAUST during the fifth KAUST-KFUPM Photonics Workshop. This time around, the focus is on optical wireless communications. The workshop was hosted by Prof. Mohamed-Slim Alouini at KAUST.
