Marc G.Genton, Professor of Statistics in the Division of Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering (CEMSE), has been appointed by KAUST President Jean-Lou Chameau to Distinguished Professor of Statistics. The distinction was assigned in recognition of his expertise, accomplishments, and international standing.
Genton is no new to international recognitions being Fellow of several scientific associations such as the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, just to mention a few. He was also elected member of the International Statistical Institute.
In 2010, he received the El-Shaarawi award for excellence from the International Environmetrics Society and the Distinguished Achievement award from the Section on Statistics and the Environment of the American Statistical Association.
Professor Genton's impressive scientific production includes 195 articles in scientific journals, a book on multivariate skew-elliptical distributions, and 320 presentations at conferences and universities worldwide. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the journal Stat.
At KAUST, Marc.Genton leads the Spatio-Temporal Statistics & Data Science research group https://stsda.kaust.edu.sa/Pages/Home.aspx The group's main interests focus on statistical analysis, flexible modeling, prediction, and uncertainty quantification of spatio-temporal data, with applications in environmental and climate science, renewable energies, geophysics, and marine science.
