KAUST CTL PhD candidate receives 1st Prize at the ENOWA x KAUST Energy Summit 2024

Eng. Fahad S. Alqurashi, a PhD candidate at the KAUST Communication Theory Lab (CTL), has been awarded the 1st Prize at the ENOWA x KAUST Energy Summit 2024 Poster Competition. The competition, held on September 8-9 at KAUST, highlighted his research contributing to the future of sustainable energy solutions.

The Poster Competition was a key feature of the summit, showcasing innovative work from researchers at the forefront of sustainable energy development. Fahad's poster on "Solar-powered hybrid FSO/RF links to connect maritime and remote regions" was recognized for its relevance to ENOWA’s vision, originality, innovation, sound methodology, and clarity in presentation. His work was appreciated by an esteemed panel of judges from ENOWA, including Nand Singh, Nicolas Calvet, Fares Ahmad, Robert Simpson, Md Habibur Rahman, Peng Li, and Murali Sankar Venkatraman.

Fahad's research focuses on developing efficient and low-cost solutions to connect unconnected people and regions with high data rates. Reflecting on his achievement, Fahad shared his vision: “Our work aims to connect unconnected people and regions in Saudi Arabia and beyond. We are committed to making a real impact in bridging the digital divide.”

CTL would also like to congratulate the other winners for their commendable work: Jooyoung Im from the group of Prof. Thomas Finkbeiner for securing the 2nd Prize and Layal Yaacoub from the group of Prof. Kuo-Wei Huang for winning the 3rd Prize. This accolade underscores CTL's dedication to pioneering research towards ubiquitous connectivity with sustainable energy solutions.
