As the title suggests, this interaction focuses on three different set-ups of free-space optical (FSO) communication. We will start with the historical background of FSO system and review traditional data transmission techniques for FSO system. In the first set-up, we will discuss a novel modulation scheme for traditional multi-input multi-output configuration, called optical space shift keying (OSSK). Two recent modified versions of OSSK scheme will also be elaborated.

Overview

Abstract

As the title suggests, this interaction focuses on three different set-ups of free-space optical (FSO) communication. We will start with the historical background of FSO system and review traditional data transmission techniques for FSO system. In the first set-up, we will discuss a novel modulation scheme for traditional multi-input multi-output configuration, called optical space shift keying (OSSK). Two recent modified versions of OSSK scheme will also be elaborated. In the second set-up, we will cover multipoint-to-multipoint cooperative multiuser FSO system which employs signal-space diversity approach to improve overall performance. The future mobile FSO system and FSO in space claim for broad field-of-view (FoV) for maximization of detected signal and effective tracking capability. Though the connection establishment with wider FoV can offer better signal reception, it also makes the link more prone to jamming activity. Motivated by these scenarios, the third and final set-up of FSO system is entirely concerned with the presence of the jammer in the system.
