Mohamed El Massad is a former member of the EnSuRe research group and the Center for Cybersecurity at New York University (NYU), where he received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. At NYU, Mohamed worked on problems in the security of computer hardware: his work on protecting the intellectual property of hardware designers was selected for publication in a special issue of the IEEE Transactions in Computer-Aided Design as a 'top pick' in Hardware and Embedded Security, and he received the 'Best Presentation' award for presenting the work at the Semiconductor Research Corporation TECHCON annual conference in Austin for three consecutive years (2016, 2017, and 2018). Mohamed has a MASc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Before joining KAUST, Mohamed spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow back at Waterloo working on problems in the security of 5G cellular networks. His work at Waterloo is currently under review for the IEEE Network Magazine. Now at KAUST, Mohamed will be working with Prof. Paulo on problems relating to fault isolation and containment in multi- and many-core systems as well as on developing robust machine learning tools for vulnerability detection in computer software.
