CEMSE Welcomes new Professor: Dr. Ying Sun

The CEMSE Division has recently welcomed a new Assistant Professor, Applied Mathematics and Computational Science, Dr. Ying Sun. Prof. Sun joins after one-year service as an assistant professor in the Department of Statistics at Ohio State University. She received her Ph.D. degree in Statistics from Texas A&M University in 2011. Before joining the Ohio State University, she was a postdoctorate researcher at the University of Chicago in the research network for Statistical Methods for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (STATMOS), and at the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) in the Uncertainty Quantification program. She demonstrated excellence in research and teaching, published research papers in top statistical journals as well as subject matter journals, won multiple best paper awards from the American Statistical Association and the Transportation Research Board National Academies, and best poster awards from the Workshop on Environmetrics and the Conference on Resampling Methods and High-dimensional Data. She has been at KAUST since the 15th of June this year.

What are your research interests?

My research interests include Spatio-temporal statistics with environmental applications, computational methods for large datasets, uncertainty quantification and visualization, functional data analysis, robust statistics, statistics of extremes.
