Multiphysics Simulation of Semiconductor-based Terahertz Devices

Semiconductor-based terahertz (THz) devices such as photoconductive antennas (PCAs) and photomixers (PMs) are widely studied as promising candidates of THz source generation and signal detection. Recent experimental research has shown that using nanostructures in the design of these devices dramatically enhances their optical-to-THz conversion efficiency, possibly allowing their use in widespread industrial applications. However, the nanostructures also increase the complexity of design and fabrication.

KAUST Ph.D. student wins Magnetism as Art Showcase Award

Jose Efrain Perez, a Ph.D. student based in the University's Sensing, Magnetism and Microsystems Laboratory, won the Magnetism as Art Showcase People's Choice Award at the 62nd Annual Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (MMM) 2017 for his artwork entitled "Magnetic Nanobeacon." Efrai­n Perez, who is supervised by Professor Jurgen Kosel, won the award at the MMM's annual showcase which was held in Pittsburgh from November 6 to 10, 2017. His colleague Zahra Albu presented and accepted the award on his behalf.

Haiding Sun

Haiding Sun was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working with Professor Xiaohang Li at the Advanced Semiconductor Laboratory at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Education and Early Career Dr. Sun received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Boston University, Massachusetts, in the United States in 2015. His Ph.D. dissertation title was “Development of Aluminum Gallium Nitride-Based Emitters In The Form of Graded-Index Separate Confinement Heterostructure (GRINSCH)." Research Interests Dr. Sun ’s research works cover various aspects of semiconductor device designs
