Doctoral candidate Ahmed Alfadhel's innovative artificial skin design has earned him the best research paper award at the 2015 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) Sensors Applications Symposium. Alfadhel is an electrical engineering student in the Sensing, Magnetism, and Microsystems research group.
He worked with his supervisor, Professor Jurgen Kosel, to fabricate a layer of touches. The breakthrough will allow for the "development of a new range of cheap, disposable devices such as portable sensors for patients and elderly people or robotic arms and prosthetics with haptic perception", Alfadhel said.
