To understand the basic concept in wave propagations, including deriving transmission and reflection coefficients of an interface, a single layer and multiple layers.  The derived results will be verified via numerical simulations. With these tools, the candidate will explore the homogenization of a heterogeneous medium and gain hands-on experience in deriving effective medium parameters.


  • Derive the transmission and reflection coefficients of a single interface and layered medium.
  • Understand the Fabry-Perot effect.
