Abstract

Distributed fiber optic sensor, which uses fiber optic as the medium for transmission and sensing fusion, owns unique advantages such as high sensitivity, large scale, and high resolution. In recent years, they have received research attention from numerous application fields and are gradually being pushed towards industrialization. Specifically, the research and development of special sensing optical fibers and their distributed sensing technologies have become the research hotspot. This talk will introduce the research progress of the backscattering enhanced optical fiber, the acoustic pressure sensitive optical fiber cable and distributed acoustic sensing technologies, mainly including the design principle, theoretical model and fabrication technique. Then, the key technologies such as sensitivity enhancement, phase noise suppression, and measurement distance extension for high-performance distributed acoustic sensing are discussed. In addition, the artificial intelligence (AI) technology is investigated to learn effective data patterns for robust recognition, as well as the modified strategies of data augmentation and domain adaptation is proposed for the AI+DAS to improve the model generalization ability. Moreover, typical engineering applications in the fields of geological exploration, infrastructure health monitoring and submarine detection are presented and prospected.
