CBRC Ph.D. student Somayah Albaradei won first place in the People's Choice category of the 2018 Spring Enrichment Program's ePoster-City of the Future competition. She won an iPad Pro and received a certificate of recognition.
She submitted her poster, "DeepExon: Deep Learning Model for Recognition of Acceptor Splice Site", which explains a deep learning model she developed for recognition of acceptor SS in the Arabidopsis thaliana genome. The model is an end-to-end feature selection and classification model applied to Big Data.
To join the competition, participants were asked to submit an ePoster on finding solutions to some of the most pressing challenges of our time: urban planning; environmental stewardship; seismology; sustainable energy production and distribution; water desalination and re-use; sustainable agriculture; robotics and artificial intelligence; big data; sensors and mobility. Their ePosters were displayed in the Lobby of Building 20 from April 30 to May 3, 2018.
The People's Choice category winners were selected based on the highest number of votes their posters received from event attendees.
